What does The Safeway Foundation, one of the largest grocery retailers in North America, and Portland Rescue Mission have in common? They each have a strong desire to care for hurting and hungry families in the greater Portland area.
Since 1949, Portland Rescue Mission has had a tireless commitment to breaking the cycle of homelessness. As part of this commitment, it provides up to 700 hot meals a day every day of the year to homeless men, women and children. In addition to feeding them, it also provides, shelter, clothing, addiction recovery and life skills training to equip hurting people to get back on their feet. Most of all, Portland Rescue Mission is helping real people move from a state of hopelessness to complete life recovery.
Because one of its main initiatives is caring for families and hungry people, The Safeway Foundation takes supporting hunger relief programs seriously and allows its divisions to contribute to their own programs to help fight hunger in their communities. Therefore, it was only fitting that the Portland division stepped up to support Portland Rescue Mission with its endeavor to provide hope to those going hungry in its community. As a way to give back, The Safeway Foundation is providing Portland Rescue Mission with support to help spread the word on the positive work they are doing in people’s lives.
