Being Local… Important to Portland

For those of you outside of the state, to say that Portlanders are passionate about local food, products, business, etc. is a bit of an understatement. Here’s a two-and-a-half minute education on Portland’s local leanings. Enjoy. And remember, being local is EXTREMELY important to Portland.

When I try to explain the importance of being local to out-of-state clients – tying in with the local community and Portlander’s preference for anything and all that is indeed – LOCAL – I find myself constantly referencing this bit on Portlandia.

Grow Your Own: Grass Roots Marketing

Edge Multimedia has combined some grass roots marketing tactics with a combination of more the more traditional for Grower’s Gold Soil mixes by Sun Gro.  We have advertisements on billboards, radio stations, and television stations across the western half of the US.  In addition, we have been working to build a Facebook page, distributing custom seed packets at events with the Grower’s Gold logo and a $5 rebate, and some unique video’s on YouTube!

Emotional Advertising

I’ve been seeing a higher volume of really good television advertising so far this year. These are local ad spots for various products and services which I normally would not give a second thought to, but the advertising is starting to captivate me in a new way.

What I am noticing is this: local companies selling products seem to be placing a higher value on social interaction, emotional connection and meeting tangible needs.

Northwest Renewable Energy Institute

There’s no “recession” in the wind energy sector. In fact, job growth and career opportunities are explosive right now, especially in the Pacific Northwest.

One of our clients is NW-REI in Vancouver, WA. They are training students to become certified wind turbine technicians and helping them find jobs. We’ve been running a targeted campaign including TV, radio and outdoor advertising for NW-REI, and the response from potential students is almost overwhelming.

Good thing they have so much room to grow on their campus… they’re gonna need it!
