We are thrilled to announce the arrival of a new client to the Edge Multimedia family. Beginning this summer, we will be working with Portland Rescue Mission. Founded in 1949, the Portland Rescue Mission is committed to breaking the cycle of homelessness. We are incredibly excited about this partnership as it is the perfect pairing of our collective skills as a company with a mission that we each care very deeply about.
By creating a safe and healing environment for homeless men, women and children that is more than just a shelter and soup kitchen, the Mission offers the means to transition individuals into new lives armed with education, recovery skills and spiritual grace. The Burnside Men's Shelter, Shepherd's Door Women's and Children's Shelter and the Next Step Transitional Home are all vital to the Portland Rescue Mission's goal to address the root causes of homelessness and actively break its hold on thousands of lives.
We will be creating partnerships with our current clients and media outlets to help shine a light on the pivotal work that is facilitated by Portland Rescue Mission. Our goal is to help Portland Rescue Mission increase their reach into the community at large so that they can help more homeless men, women and children see radical change in their lives. We welcome your thoughts and ideas.

It might seem impossible to create an advertising idea that has an impact when we consider that our customers are bombarded daily with a constant stream of advertising - some studies estimate that we are exposed to over 3,000 advertising messages each day. How can we come up with something new and fresh that will reach our target market in an effective and memorable way?
Take a look at the tools you have at your disposal. Television and radio advertising, promotional events, co-marketing campaigns with our vendors, sponsorship and philanthropic activities, e-flyers, websites and internet marketing... This is just a small sample of the many tools we can use to drive your message into the market. But if we take an honest look into the heart of these tangible activities, we will find something so intangible that it can sometimes seem to defy reasoning: creativity, or more specifically, creative advertising.
Coming up with a creative advertising idea can be extremely challenging. Successful ideas are not only bold, fresh, seasonal and flexible, they should also be meaningful to the target and relevant to the culture, current events and local trends.
If that didn’t present enough of a challenge, we know that marketing methods used in years past no longer stand up to the competition that today's marketplace generates. It takes “something different” to grab the average person’s attention.
This is where creative advertising comes into play, and the risk takers are usually the ones who win the prize. It does cost money, and it does take time, talent, effort and commitment, but a unique and creative advertising idea is a great way to grab the attention of consumers who are overdosed on everyday marketing methods. Here are some simple ways that we find success in creative advertising for our clients at Edge Multimedia:
Use art forms, colors, and words which are not commonly associated with your particular business field. It almost sounds too simple, but this is often enough to give you the extra second or two of attention that you need to maintain consumer mindshare.
Employ creative advertising ideas that are not commonly used in the particular business field, i.e. using advanced technology to promote a traditional business product. Podcasting and Comcast Searchlight are examples of new methods of sharing information which can be used to promote an offline product or service.
Use email flyer campaigns for targeted consumer groups. Email flyers are easy to design, low in cost to distribute and effective in promoting their business or product.
Finally, use small and typically mundane things in creative ways, such as business cards, flyers and promotional gifts to draw consumer interest. We have demonstrated that even a business card with an extra creative edge can make a huge impact over time.
If you’re interested in discovering more about how creative advertising can have a positive impact on your business, we would love to talk with you.

How long have you been in the advertising business? 21 years
What media outlets have you worked for? Classical, contemporary jazz and rock formats for first 10 years. The last 11 for Sacramento's Talk 650 KSTE and News Talk 1530 KFBK
Biggest challenge of job: Time management. Organizational structures in both the companies we work for, and those we do business with, have been streamlined. The job of radio account executive has been transformed in the past several years. The best in our field must encompass creative and research consultation, web integration and inventory yield management in their skill sets to build client loyalty and repeat business. Add to this routine day to day administration and every minute becomes precious.
Biggest reward of job: When my clients can relate genuine growth in their businesses to working with me and my broadcast and web properties.
Favorite business book: What They Don't Teach You at Harvard Business School by Mark McCormack. Mark was a sports agent for some of the greatest golf and tennis players of all time. More importantly, he was an intuitive visionary and trend spotter who understood basic human and business relationships.
Awards/recognitions: Two-time Sacramento Advertising Club "ADDY" winner for excellence in creative, effective advertising.
A success secret – what is something that you do that helps you be great at your job? I treat my client's marketing investment as if it is my own money. No matter what the latest initia tive or internal dynamics may be at my own stations, I never recommend anything I wouldn't buy myself. Placing your client's interests first while asserting and delivering your value to them every day beats pushing "spots and packages".
Favorite pastimes or hobbies: I am an avid skier and golfer in my limited spare time. I love getting away with my wife Mindy to our vacation retreat in Lake Tahoe.
Anything interesting to share? Thanks to a combination of blind luck and determination, I was able to attend the Super Bowl this year in Arizona. The experience has inspired me to write a fan perspective book chronicling this unexpected road trip in the context of family, business, media and American culture. The working title is Making The Game: Fan tales from the backroad to the Super Bowl.

We suggest requesting electronic proposals rather than hard copies. This will significantly save on paper, ink and postage. Plus, you’ll cut down on your filing storage needs by being able to file electronically instead of in a filing cabinet. When you receive an electronic proposal, go thru it and only print the pages that you really need. If you find that your proposal is too large to email, consider using FTP services. It’s easy and efficient.
